Bathroom Renovation

And here it is…One of my favorite projects to date. I am thrilled to reveal this farmhouse bathroom renovation. Alongside Kohler, I designed a fresh, modern bathroom that is the perfect fit for a 1920’s farmhouse, which is lucky enough to be owned by my close friends, the Kren family. Kohler had a huge part to play in this space. The Kohler Tailored Vanity Collection is a brilliant concept. You can create the vanity of your dreams, on the comfort of your sofa. There are five distinct vanity styles, ranging from traditional to contemporary, that each yield a sharp statement. I chose the Jute 60″ floating Vanity in Walnut Flax, paired with the solid white vanity top. My favorite detail about the Jute vanity is how streamlined it is. It’s like having a gorgeous piece of furniture in your bathroom.

The homeowner made this rustic tub shelf in his woodworking studio. It’s a perfect solution to hold all of your soaps and potions. And it’s a lovely detail in the bathroom.

I chose to do classic subway tiles with a modern twist by using dark gray/black grout. The darker you go, the more striking it will become. And cheers to not having to bleach your grout!

Now let’s talk about this Kohler faucet. The Karbon faucet is a modern masterpiece! It literally took my breathe away when I first saw it in person. My favorite part is the integral sprayhead that provides both laminar flow and spray functions at the touch of a button.

Hexagon tiles are a major trend right now. Black hexagon tiles are borderline perfection. We got these particular tiles off of Overstock for a steal of a deal. Pair them with white grout for a fantastically awesome look. And for the shower, we chose a black penny tile with the same white grout.

If you are needing decorative items for your bathroom, you can’t go wrong with plants, jars marble objects and white towels. The homeowner also made this raw wood ladder to display towels on.

I love displaying barn style lighting in modern spaces. And the cage just makes it industrially amazing.

The homeowner had some great postcards that we used as art. We also pulled jars and plants from other rooms in the house to keep the budget cost low.

Is the mirror by Kohler as well? I did not see the side wood paneled option on their website.
(If you custom did that to coordinate with the vanity then Bravo!)

  5. Your farmhouse bathroom renovation looks really great. The way you designed a modern bathroom to fit in a 1920’s farmhouse is brilliant. Going with a dark black grout with the white tiles was definitely a good way to go. I agree, that really helps to make this look more striking. I’m installing white tile in my bathroom, so seeing how black grout looks with white tile makes me realize that it actually looks really awesome, and that I should use this in my own bathroom. Now it will look even more awesome. Thanks for posting this!
