What is your color scheme?

When planning a decorating project or redoing a space do you think in color schemes or do you go with the flow and whatever color works together, works together?  I seem to lean on the side of playing with colors that don’t usually meet.  But at the same time, there are certain color schemes that I love.  One being gray, cream and yellow (mustard).  I cant get enough of it!  I also love whites and blacks paired with bold colors.
Colors certainly set the mood!  That is why it is so important to be picky with the more permanent colors in your home.  You can always change and have more fun with temporary items like accessories, linens, small furniture, ect.  That is why I chose to do a neutral gray color scheme on my walls.  I know myself and I know that my mind changes alot!

What about you?  Do you have a favorite color scheme?  Do you even like color pallets?

Pastel walls give this room a retro and playful feel.

Lots of neutrals allow you to change the color accents.

Pretty pastels and neutrals seem so sophisticate in this space.

  1. I totally love the ‘ gray, cream and mustard’ colour scheme too! I’m putting a spin on it for my family room and I call it the Corona bottle colour scheme: gray-blue, cream and mustard.

Hopefully it works out how I envision :)

I do color schemes first . After we bought our house, we went through and painted the living room a (lighter) sage green, with a dark chocolate accent wall, and the office and kitchen a pale yellow with the same brown accent walls. When people walk in, they can see all three colors with the different angles, so the sage/ chocolate/pale yellow is a fun trio! Our furniture and decor has seemed to follow the color scheme, but I’m in love with brown and sage green right now. I LOVE the look of the cream/grey/mustard though!

P.S. do you ever sleep? ;P

I definitely lean on the neutral side (almost too much). It works well for us though. My husband likes neutral back drops too. Then – I love building color in pillows, accents, etc. I’m pretty sure I learned ALL OF THIS from you. Either way, we are happy in our home! :)

  4. Unfortunately I don’t have much of an option but I think I like different ways of building color.
Obviously we added a lot of color by painting our dining room wall green and everything-except for the table-has been intentionally white. The other rooms I just try to keep the walls neutral ( as if I had the choice) so I have the flexibility of adding color elsewhere. I think all in all Jeremiah and I like large washes of neutrals and color in smaller doses and even then it’s planned out and we try to repeat those colors throughout the room.
    :)

I think we’re peas in a pod… all my walls are grey at home and my color scheme comes together organically. But, when it comes to clients, I usually plan it out based on a color scheme! I would say that charcoal, yellow, and white are a fav!!!

YES! we’re the same – can’t get enough of grey and mustard yellow – LOVE IT! It’s currently what I have going on in my living room right now :)

I tend to lean towards color schemes as well. I think it makes a room feel a little more planned and put together. Oh and I LOVE the yellow, gray and white combo! I can’t get enough! Yellow is one of my fave interior colors.

While I love color, I tend to pick creams and neutrals on my bigger {upholstered} pieces and throw in pattern and bright color in accessories. Although sometimes I’ve been known to go wild and bust out a crazy big pattern in something like chairs and window treatments…fun! I guess I usually start with a pattern I love and work around it in every way. It would be far easier to start with color first. But I do most everything backwards, anyway. ;)

My ideal home is full of white and neutral staple pieces with bright colour accents using accesories. But in a real-life-rental-expatriate sitaution such as mine; my apartment came fully furnished and nothing matches! Gah!
