Thursday, November 19th, 2009

I am blogging late at night so my brain is without words. Here are brief descriptions for you because if I tried writing more it would sound odd!

This week while my hubby and I were out searching for a sofa I found this beauty. It was sitting in a thrift store with a $25 price tag. I love good deals!!

This company sent me a canvas of my favorite picture of my kids taken by Yan Photography. Isn’t it gorgeous??? It is seriously my favorite art piece in my house.

Why are projects never ending? I counted 10 projects that I want to get done by Thanksgiving. That is 2 weeks away from today!!
I think projects are never ending because I love doing them and I don’t want to stop. I am a project addict. Haha. Are you that way? Do you finish one project to start another?
I love re- spray painting a frame 5 different times. I love recovering the same pillow 5 different ways in the course of 5 months. ITS NEVER ENDING! But I love it.

I hung a few of my favorite little framed pictures around my hall mirror.
I inherited my Grandfathers childhood desk which I love. It was in my son’s room for awhile but then he got a cute schoolhouse desk so we moved it into our room. I added anthro knobs and placed it under the art wall in my bedroom. I bought the pineapple lamp at the Farm House Sale and then found some accessories from around my house including the clock and displayed them on the desk. (I also walked around my home yesterday with a handful of batteries because I realized most of my clocks didnt even work.)

Here are more images of my old office. It is now a cozy sitting area. I LOVE being in this room.
It took 3 coats of crisp white paint to cover the old dark grayish brownish color. (My lovely husband is the paint champion!) He also created that quirky black piece of art with tape and yarn. The pillow fabric I purchased from a local quilting shop. I decoupaged the top of my side table with magazine pages. I covered the lampshade with a vintage looking fabric. The wood shelve was leftover wood from another project. And don’t forget my $45 settee!!! xx

Thanks…..

Thanks so much to Irene from Bloesem Kids for including me in her Mom Stories. You can check it out here.
I LOVE getting letters and packages in the mail. It is one of those things that is so personable. How easy is it to email someone but to send a package takes a bit of work. Now, personally I need to work on my post office skills. It feels like such a task to visit the post office. Especially with children. But what a treat for the receiver to open there treasure.
So hint hint, I like packages! Haha.
Viv from Ish and Chi just sent me the latest Real Living and Inside Out since I live thousands of miles away from these lovely magazines! It was fun to see my bathroom up close.

Thanks!

My hubby and I recently redid our office. I was so done with the dark walls so hubby painted everything a crisp white and after 3 coats it looks great. Below is the settee I found for $45. Its my favorite piece right now.

More pictures to come of the transformation.

Have I mentioned yet that I won a giveaway??? After years of entering giveaways I finally won!! And its was a good one :)
And also thanks to Kate for the sweet post on my dining room.

What is going on at the Grove household….

This week the Grove household had a sick mommy. Somehow I got a little bug but not to worry, I am back in action….I think. Everyone was ready for me to be well, including Bear (below).

While being on my back I glanced thru some old decor magazines and books. One of my favorite items to collect is vintage decor books. Better Homes and Gardens Decorating Book from 1968 is a treat. Mostly because you look thru the pages and some of what you see works for 2009. For instance the image below is an eclectic mix of plastics, metals and synthetic finishes which is how most of us decorate today. Not to mention how lovely those tufted chaise lounges are!
How cute is the pop art wall in this child’s bedroom.
Who doesn’t love a Charles Eames Lounge Chair?
Below is a custom headboard made from wallpaper panels.
You can find this book here. Ebay and amazon are both great places to find vintage and antique books. If you’re using Amazon, look for Amazon coupons here.

Below is a sneak peek into the latest Grove project. Cant wait to finish it!!

My cheery mirror in Real Living!!!

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

A friend and SG reader emailed me last week and told me that my yellow mirror is in the November issue of Real Living in the “Your Thoughts” section. Yippee! I wont be able to see it for awhile since it takes a bit longer to get here from Australia. So Australian peeps, let me know how it looks!
Also, check out Viv’s blog today. She announced on ish and chi that her home is featured in Real Living!! I am so excited for her. She is a lovely person with a lovely home:)

New but Old…..

Monday, September 28th, 2009

I wanted to give my sofa a fall makeover but not spend alot of money. I found some plaid shirts that hubby and I grew tired of and made a few pillows out of the fabric. I also found some ultra cheep vintage fabric from a consignment shop and made a few more pillows. There is another floral fabric that I found at a local fabric store that I will add soon. But for now I like my plaid party on the sofa. Oh and how about that lamp find!!

Playroom….

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Here is the last kiddo room on this tour. We have a “bonus room” upstairs near the kids rooms that we turned into an all out play room. Nothing about it is adult. There are books, toys, art projects and games that fill this room and sometimes fill it to full. Oh well.

This room is a mixture of thrift shops, Ikea, Urban Outfitters, Etsy and handmade. The bench that holds all of there books is a bookshelf turned sideways and topped with a mountain of pillows. I found all sizes of ABC’s at a local craft store and painted them. The mirror underneath the coo coo clock (Urban) was my moms mirror and I have wanted it for forever so she finally gave in and gave it to me. Thanks mom!
The kids love to hideaway in this room and sometimes so do I:)

Visit my flickr for more images of all 3 rooms.

Also click on the image to view bigger.

Next week I will show you the plaid party that I created for my couch!!

My Ethan’s Room….

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

My son is much more organized and clean by nature then my daughter. Ethan has a place for everything and MUST have a clean room before he goes to sleep every night. I gave him a space without clutter so that it would be easy to clean and organize. I also tried to create a place for him to read, draw and practice his pre-school tasks.
Eden has a variety of accessories where Ethan only has one of everything. Different personalities need different spaces!
The deer art was painted by my hubby and the art on the main wall is a collection of Etsy, Target, hubby and Ethan’s art. My friend bought the desk at a garage sale for $7 and the inspiration board above the desk is full of his favorite people. Ethan and I made the lamp shade by wrapping yarn all the way down the lamp. It looks very cool at night.
I purchased the planets above his bed at Pottery Barn years ago. He will never let me get rid of them! Both chairs are Ikea.

Playroom tour TOMORROW.

My Eden’s Room….

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

I have shown a few images of my kid’s rooms in the past but I thought I would give you more of a tour today. We will start with Eden’s room.
My Eden Jo is full of personality so I felt her space needed to be fun and whimsical. My dad painted a quote on the wall that I found off of a greeting card that seemed very fitting of her personality. Her bedding is a mix of Ikea and handmade pillows. The giant horse was a gift from one of her favorite baby sitters. The pin wheels on the wall were left overs from the shower I hosted a few months back.
I bought the armoire a few years ago and painted the outside of the doors Jet black to give it some contrast. The armoire is topped with a variety of sentimental pieces as well as fun pieces. Most of the art in her room is Etsy with exception of an Urban Outfitters print and a mommy made when she was bored print. The butterfly wreathe was also made late at night with 2 besties. I bought the venetian heart shaped mirror for dirt cheap on Ebay.
All in all my little girl is very happy in this room and that is what matters the most!
Tomorrow I will give you a tour of Ethans room and then the playroom.

Mr Martha…..

Someone gave me a sewing machine!! Yipppee!! I am so excited and I cant wait to try it however, you want to know a little secret? See the 2 pillows below? Well….my hubby made them. Its true. He is the seamstress in the family. But don’t worry, he really is a manly man. He attributes his skill to his 7th grade home ec class. Shhhh….please don’t tell him that I told you.

Don’t forget to enter the Mikasa giveaway and the pillow giveaway. So many giveaways!! Sheesh.

My bathroom redo…..

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

My hubby and I recently revamped our powder room. I wanted a quick fix to what I felt was to dark of a room so we (hubby did most of it) painted the walls a crisp white, wallpapered the ceiling and painted the mirror a sunny yellow. I am happy with the results. Its bright, chic and cheery!

Cirque du Stella……

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

This last weekend my friends and I threw a shower at my house for our bestie who is prego with “Stella”. We have been waiting a long time to throw this particular shower so it had to be a good one. The theme was “Cirque du Stella”. We had to have a cotton candy machine because what circus party doesnt?? A full candy bar was a must and to even out all of the sugar we had a yogurt bar from heaven. All in all it was very successful. To bad Stella wasnt there to experience her party.
